                                                                          Our Undergraduate Team Once Again Publishes Research Results in Top International Material Journals

                                                                          In the past few days, the research paper “The First Two-Dimensional Homochiral Lead Iodide Perovskite Ferroelectrics: [(R)-and (S)-1-(4-chlorophenyl)ethylammonium] 2PbI4” written by undergraduates in our school (Yang Chenkai, Chen Wangnan, Ding Yanting, Wang Jing and Rao Yin) has been accepted by, Advanced Materials, top international material journal (DOI: 10.1002/ adma.201808088). This is their published again research paper on molecular ferroelectricity, following the article published last time in Journal of the American Chemical Society, the top chemical journal.

                                                                          Two-dimensional (2D) organic-inorganic lead iodide perovskite, as a promising absorbent material for solar cells, has attracted great attention because of its excellent optoelectronic properties, structural adjustability and environmental stability. However, although great efforts have been made by scholars, two-dimensional lead iodide perovskite ferroelectrics have not been found in order to improve photovoltaic performance by utilizing their ferroelectricity. We here have successfully obtained 2D lead iodide perovskite ferroelectric [(R)-1-(4-chlorophenyl) ethylamine] 2PbI4 and [(S)-1-(4- chlorophenyl) ethylamine] 2PbI4 by introducing chiral cations. They all crystallized in the P1 polar space group at room temperature, and 422F1 ferroelectric phase transitions occurred at 483 K and 473.2 K, respectively, showing multipolar axis ferroelectric characteristics. In addition, they also have semiconductor properties, with a direct bandgap of 2.34 eV. The introduction of homochirality is beneficial to the crystallization of two-dimensional lead iodide perovskite in polar space group. This discovery provides an effective way to design high-performance two-dimensional lead iodide perovskite ferroelectric materials.
